How to Clean your Samsung Dishwasher Filter?

There are a number of reasons why you may need to clean the filter of your Samsung dishwasher. Your dishwasher might not be draining well because it is clogged or your dishes may be coming out dirty at the end of the washing cycle.

Here are a few steps you can follow to clean your Samsung dishwasher filter.

1. Remove the lower rack.

To access the Samsung dishwasher filter, you need to first remove the lower rack.

But before you remove the lower rack, make sure you have removed all the dishes from the lower rack of your dishwasher.

Just like in most dishwashers, the lower rack is very easy to remove. You simply pull it out of the dishwasher and it’ll come out with ease. If the rack hesitates a little, just lift it and pull it out.

2. Unfasten the filter compartment door.

Some dishwashers have easy-to-remove compartment doors while others require unscrewing.

Check your dishwasher’s user manual to confirm if you have a removable filter. But if you don’t, you are going to need a drill to unscrew the screws of the filter compartment door.

If your dishwasher’s filter is removable, twist the handle in an anti-clockwise manner and that will unfasten the filter compartment door.

If you need to first remove the screws, we advise that you use a power drill instead of doing it manually with a screwdriver to save time.

3. Remove the filter door, and then the filter.

Now that the filter compartment door is unfastened. You can now pull out the filter door which looks like a mesh screen. Pull out the cylindrical filter after.

Check where the filter has been and make sure there is no debris or foreign object stuck there. Sometimes bones and food particles get stuck down there.

4. Wiping dirt, soaking in vinegar, and cleaning in running water.

Clean off any dirt on the filters and remove any visible debris or foreign objects.

Soak the filters in a bucket of white distilled vinegar overnight to remove any stubborn grease.

If you don’t have the patience to wait for the filters to soak, simply clean them under running hot soapy water.

This will also ensure that any stubborn grease that has collected over time is removed.

5. Reinstalling the filter and the filter door.

After cleaning the filters, you have to put them back. Follow the opposite order that you used while removing them.

First put back the cylindrical filter and then the filter door.

It could be different for each dishwasher model.

You need to follow your user manual for better results. This guide was made according to the Samsung DW80M9550US model.

6. Locking the filter door.

If your Samsung dishwasher is the model that is easy to lock, simply rotate the filter door handle in a clockwise manner and it will pop right in.

If your dishwasher filter door needs screws to be locked, drill back the screws and fasten the filter door.

Other Types of Cleaning

1. Routine Clean.

You need to clean your dishwasher regularly.

If you notice any food particles or debris inside the dishwasher and dirt stains on the surface of your Samsung dishwasher, do not wait for your scheduled routine.

Clean the surface of the dishwasher and the touchpad area with a cloth and wipe off the dirty stains or any dust that has settled on it.

Clean the interior of your dishwasher by putting a coffee mug full of vinegar and then select the Sanitize button.

2. Deep clean.

A deep clean is not supposed to be done as often as the routine described above.

Before you do a deep clean, you should have already performed the routine clean.

Remove the dishwasher’s filters and nozzles and put them in a bucket of vinegar to soak overnight.

This will remove the debris and food particles that are stubborn and can’t be removed during the routine clean.

3. Clean the nozzles.

You have to clean your dishwasher’s nozzles often.

The nozzles have holes that are meant to spray out water during the cleaning cycle.

But if the nozzles are clogged, your dishwasher won’t be able to do its job easily and your dishes will come out with food particles.

4. Clean the drain pump.

On some Samsung dishwashers, you can access the drain pump by removing the drain filter.

When you access the drain pump, inspect it for any foreign objects that might be stuck there and remove them.

Sometimes you can tell that there’s something stuck in the drain motor when it is making a weird noise and the dishwasher is not draining well.

5. Seeking professional help.

Usually, removing and cleaning dishwasher filters is so easy and rarely requires professional help.

However, Some dishwashers have filter compartment doors that are not easy to remove.

If you have followed your user manual and have failed to remove your filter, please contact a qualified technician to help you out.

Conclusion.

Cleaning your dishwasher filter is a very easy task to do. It does not require a lot of time and energy. It will help you get rid of the bad smell in your dishwasher and also make sure you do not have dirty dishes at the end of a wash cycle.
